Notes
Capture a thought without leaving your app, then find it on any device.
Capture a note
- Double-tap Left Shift in any app to open the note box.
- Type your note, or hold your dictation key to speak into the box. The default dictation key is Right Ctrl on Linux and Windows, or Fn on macOS.
- Press Enter to save and return to your app. Use Shift + Enter for a new line.
Select text before opening the box to prefill it in quotes. The header shows the app it came from. Add your own text below the quote.
Press Esc to close without saving. Your draft stays in memory for the next time you open the box. Pressing the note shortcut again also closes the box and keeps the draft.
Change the New note shortcut in Settings if you prefer another key.
Find your notes
Open Notes in the desktop sidebar to read, search, edit, pin or delete notes. The first line is the title. Pinned notes stay at the top; other notes are grouped by day.
Sign in at typeaside.app/notes to use your notes in a browser, including on your phone.
Sync and privacy
Notes save on your computer first. When you sign in, they sync through TypeAside's servers so they appear on your other devices. Signed-out notes stay local until you sign in. Changes saved offline sync when you're back online.
Deleting a note deletes it. Notes are stored on our servers for sync; dictation history stays on your computer. Dictation into a note uses your configured transcription and editing services, just like other dictation.
