Permissions

Give TypeAside access to your microphone, keyboard, and text fields.

macOS

TypeAside requests Accessibility, Microphone, and Input Monitoring access. Missing permissions also appear in the app, including during onboarding.

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  2. Enable TypeAside under Accessibility, Microphone, and Input Monitoring.
  3. Quit and restart TypeAside from Applications.

Use the same installed copy of TypeAside. Moving or replacing a locally signed build can change its permission identity.

Linux

TypeAside reads global hotkeys through evdev and injects paste shortcuts through uinput. Your user needs read access to the relevant /dev/input/event* devices and access to /dev/uinput.

  1. Check the permission error shown by TypeAside.
  2. Configure your distribution's device access rules for evdev and uinput. Group and udev configuration depends on the distribution.
  3. Sign out and back in if you changed group membership, then restart TypeAside.

Keyboard device access lets a program observe key presses. Grant it only to software you trust.

TypeAside needs wl-copy and wl-paste from wl-clipboard, plus timeout for reading a selection. It uses Wayland clipboard and primary selection protocols. Its Linux overlay uses layer shell. Clipboard and overlay support depend on your compositor. Foreground-app detection on Linux currently uses niri msg; other compositors fall back to the Other cleanup category. See Common issues.

Windows

TypeAside uses a global keyboard hook and injected copy/paste shortcuts. Windows prevents an unelevated process from injecting into an elevated app. Try a normal text editor to check whether this boundary is the cause.
