Transcription
Use a TypeAside account or connect your own provider.
TypeAside account
- Open Settings → Account and choose Sign in.
- Complete the browser connection flow.
- Under Transcription → Source, select TypeAside account.
Hosted transcription uses your account allowance. See Plans.
Bring your own key
- Select Own key under Transcription → Source.
- Set Endpoint to your provider's OpenAI-compatible base URL, including its API prefix, such as
https://api.groq.com/openai/v1. - Enter the provider's transcription Model and API key. Leave the key field or press Enter to save it.
- If you use AI editing or voice commands, configure the Editing endpoint, model, and key too.
The transcription endpoint must accept /audio/transcriptions; the editing endpoint must accept /chat/completions. Check model names with your provider. BYOK requests go directly from TypeAside to the configured provider and do not use the hosted allowance.
Key storage
TypeAside stores keys in macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or Linux Secret Service. Keys are associated with the endpoint host, so two endpoints on the same host share the saved key. On Linux, make sure your Secret Service keyring is available and unlocked.
Language
Settings → Language → Spoken chooses a language or automatic detection. Translate to requests translated output through the editing model. Set it to Off to keep the spoken language.
